In our late web log post “ Simple Fertilizing of Roses – Part 1 ” we talked about using time release fertilizers to slowly feed your rose wine during the time of year . My experience with roses narrate me they love these sort of fertilizers over most anything else – and certainly as a foundation for most programs .
This bring us to part 2 of a wide-eyed fertilizing program and something that may surprise you .
Part 2 does n’t postulate feeding the rosiness at all .

It involves feeding the soil you plant them in !
Basically here is why . Unless the soil your roses are planted in is alive , the flora ca n’t take up any kind of time handout fertiliser you put down . Or if it can take some up it will be just that – some . Most everything your rose postulate to be healthy is in your soil and it ’s our business to ensure it is available to them . The keyword being uncommitted .
If we never disturbed our territory Mother Nature would take forethought of this for us . But as we prepare garden beds , flora new flora , clean out sometime rubble ; we interfere with that process . Not because we are bad gardeners but because we like to found thing ! The latter part , old debris , is the key to this .

reckon of a timberland floor that is undisturbed . Everyone agrees it is a rich soil environment because over the year , leave and limb fall and they decompose into the soil every season . It is that decomposing debris that lay down living land .
So how do we duplicate that in our garden ?
With compost – which is really just detritus . If you could make your own compost , that ’s great . If you ca n’t then any kind of organic compost include gymnastic horse manure , mushroom compost etc will do . The main affair is it is not sterilized but alternatively it ’s full of life and comosted organic matter .

The way I plow it is uncomplicated . I spread it on my layer to about 2 ” bass and then cover it with hardwood mulch . After that I get out of Mother Nature ’s way and countenance her do her thing . Each season I never rake out old mulch / compost and just add more as need . All I ’m trying to do is duplicate what Mother Nature does in the forest in my roseate garden .
After all , who am I to think I know more than Mother Nature !
Happy Roseing .
