Paeonia mascula ssp. mascula.

I am sorry about the name and the tautology but I did n’t invent   it .   If you love these metal money peonies you have to get to grips with their impossible name . The colour of the exclusive flowers of this one can range from pinkish to magenta .   Mine is deep garden pink and I think she is stunning . This Peony was cultivated in monastery garden because it was considered to be a cure for various ills . In fact the name Peony comes from Paeon , the Greek immortal of healing .

If you reckon the name is unsufferable then you might findPaeonia mlokosewitschiieven worse . This name was n’t invented just to torment nurseryman . It was name after   Ludwik Mlokosiewiez , the Polish plant scientist who found it . It come from the foothill of the Caucasus . Reginald Farrer say of it:‘This pleasant slight potpourri   of syllables should bepractiseddaily , but only before dinner unless dry principles of   the rigorous are adopted . ’If you desire to practice it daily then this is how it is pronounced . ‘ Mlok - oh - zih - vich - eeh - oculus ’ . Or you could just call it ‘ Molly The Witch ’   like every one else .

As you see Molly is a very refined lady and her color is the palest stinker . Pauline show her adorable Molly the Witch growing amongst leave - me - nots in her blog : Leadupthegardenpath . Do have a look . She says that Molly the Witch is her plant of the week and you’re able to see why .

The endearing prime only last a workweek but in the autumn it has lovely seminal fluid pods which open to reveal silky pinkish interiors studded with grim and pinkish seeds . The black ones are the fertile ones and you may easily grow new Mollies although you have to wait several year for the flowers . I was disappointed with the ones I grew because rather of have lovely lemon blossom they were tinged with pinkish . I think they must have been fecundate byPaeonia mascula .

I showed the bud on myPaeonia rockiia hebdomad or two ago . I am still expect for it to open and I will show you as soon as it does . It is the next large happening in the garden . In the meantime I am savour these two looker .

Thanks for the peony post , and to the Commenters for still more . I sleep with only our wild one , Paeonia brownii — it ’s rare and a real treat to find ! and as fleeting as the others unfortunatelyhttp://www.wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=PABR

They ’re both beautiful ( despite their glossa - twisting names ) . I have to get out in the garden to check whether there ’s any sign of buds on my Itoh paeony – deplorably , peonies are n’t well - accommodate to our hot , dry conditions here .

Pauline has taken the words out of my rima oris 🙂

Your peonies are beautiful and cue me that I ’ve several species blooming flop now that I should go photograph . Practicing ‘ Mlok - oh - zih - vich - eeh - heart ! ’

give thanks you for your post with excellent photos . I was searching if the peony I have is P. mascula . I am German , but have been to garden visits in GB in the past 20 eld . It is my favourite country . Not possible this year , what a pity .

Concerning the botanic orthoepy I heard that English speaking hoi polloi pronounce them like English words . However the names often come in from Greek or Latin . The latter I had to watch in grammar schoolhouse , but learned a lot about Greek from my deceased hubby who had to con Greek as well as Latin . So when you speak about Paeonia mlokosewichii the last two letters are not pronounced like ‘ eye ’ , but each ‘ i ’ is enounce separately . In the meantime I got used to the English orthoepy , but in the first years I sometimes asked people to import it for me . I felt a bit stupid at times . 😀
