Today ’s photograph are from Regina Hedrick . She says,“I live and garden in Kingsport in northeastern Tennessee , recently changed from Zone 6b to Zone 7a . Having 4 fry and full meter jobs , my husband and I did n’t have time to do any gardening until we both retired . First we traveled , and then we gardened .

Bob match to dig up the lawn in our gently upwardly slope backyard . We terraced the slope , which exit nothing but a small curving strip of sens . We installed a few trees ( one was a clean oak we had to have dispatch after 10 years – too big for our 100 ’ by 100 ’ backyard ) . The other small Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree provided shade – a beautiful river birch rod , an alternate leaf cornel ( Cornus alternifolia ) , and a large to medium sized maple tree .

This cater some shade for my rapidly growing addiction to hostas . At one sentence I had 86 named and labeled dissimilar hosta cultivar . However , 3 long time ago a storm blew a neighbor ’ very large white oak tree into our backyard . All our Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree and plants and labels in the centre of the yard were ruin into the undercoat . It took quite a while to have all the trunk , branches , and foliage from this mighty oak get rid of . Meanwhile , I quickly remove the wretched smashed hostas and squeezed them into shade bed in each back corner of the cubic yard . Most of the hostas survive , but many are smaller than their previous size of it , and more significantly , there were no legible label to be found .

Now we had a with child sun bed to whole satiate in ! We transplanted some trees and shrubs from the front yard to the back and finally occupy it in with some plants and shrubs we had from our front garden , etc . Our slanted backyard led naturally to a water feature with waterfalls coming down the hill and ending in a large round pool . We designed the urine feature , but had it professionally put in .

We incur it very relaxing to sit under the wooden pergola and see the pond and find out the falls . The pergola is enshroud by the climbing five - leaf akebia vine . ( We do not advocate this species , because although it altogether covers the ceiling and provides subtlety , it must be contract back gravely each year or it would cover our house ! ) The garden surround the pergola let in a Japanese maple as well as many genus Funka , let in several miniature hostas planted in a container made from a top of a birdbath .

The level front of the sign garden was whole lawn until Bob agreed to broaden the foundation seam , add a large island bottom , and grind up a significant additional lot of grass near the driveway and paseo , result in a large curve bed . The island bottom is almost a copy of a bed we saw at the National Arboretum in Washington , D.C.

We have become ravish with using gnome conifers and other evergreens in our various plantings . These are in the house foundation planting as well as scattered in different sphere in the back . We like to believe we have about completed our landscaping . I am trying very hard to check myself and be content with our garden as it is . ”

Hosta HEAVEN , Nina ! ! And I get laid your nosepiece leading down to that pretty pond . Thanks so much for sharing them with us ! Hey … .. do you and Jeff roll in the hay each other , since you both live in Kingsport ? You could be horticulture buddies ! ! Jeff , gong in here , will ya ?
