David Austin Roses has released two new varieties for American and Canadian gardeners in 2017 . ‘ Desdemona ’ is white and ‘ The Ancient Mariner ’ is fertile pink . Both are useable via their internet site atwww.davidaustinroses.com .
‘ Desdemona ’ gestate white blush on a compact shrub to around 4 pes in height . The blooms are medium sized , around 3 in across with about 50 petals . Like all David Austin Roses it is fragrant . David Austin Roses technological director and senior rosarian Michael Marriott considers it to be the unspoiled whitened Austin rose to date . Even well than Winchester Cathedral which from personal experience I get it on to be a very good rose and has stood the trial of sentence for over two ten .
‘ Desdemona ’ blooms all season and repeat quickly which stand for it is rarely out of bloom . White flowers are very utilitarian in the garden as they allow the optic with a resting stop between other color and are also very useful to separate people of color that collide . The overall health is very good and that is logical with what I am seeing out of David Austin Roses at The Biltmore International Rose Trials .

‘ The Ancient Mariner ’ bears larger blooming of 4 to 4.5 inches across . They can be quite hard petalled early in the season , when temperature are cooler , with petal counts up to 160 per flower . Later on expect around 60 - 100 depending on where you live . warm climates will be on the low end of the count while cooler ace will be on the higher end .
The bloom shape is classic David Austin . The color is a rich garden pink that is deeper in center . The KO’d petals are more translucent which allow the light to glow through them . I ’ve seen this on other David Austin Roses and the effect is lovely . It is of trend fragrant .
One thing to consider about ‘ The Ancient Mariner ’ is that it is a marvelous growing David Austin Rose . It ’s list at 5 feet tall but they do mention it can get taller in warmer clime . Anyone who grows Graham Thomas in a fond climate will know exactly what they intend . Because of this potential I would counsel those try this arise in a warm climate keep it at the back of the border and be prepared to pillar or peg it . easily yet perhaps place it against a modest fencing and treat it is a short climber . I ’ve had terrific success with the latter use of some of the magniloquent David Austin Roses .

We are bless to have Mr. Austin still breed rose at the almost age of 91 . If he takes the same route Mr. Moore did he will be doing so for many years to come !
Happy Roseing
Paul
