multiplication
section is a very straightforward method of extension . but put , a single large industrial plant can unremarkably be divided into several littler plants . Most plunk form perennials will blithely divide at this time of year . I have a few still in corporation that I have not quite get around to embed out , so I am take in the chance to increase bit . So how does one divide a perennial ? The little version is “ you just divide a perennial ” . It ’s not hard .
slenderly recollective version if it ’s not something you ’ve tried before :

I commence with a lobelia speciosa ‘ fan burgundy ’ , still in its pot . The process is the same if the plant life is in the ground , you just have to dig it up first .
I remove the lobelia from the pot .
Depending on the size of the plant or ball , different implements can be used to perform the performance . I have used a saw , a knife , two fork back to back , all sorts . In this case I was able to utilize my helping hand . take hold of the root ball , I dug my fingers and thumbs in to tear the plant into two pieces , and then again to get four or five piece in total . I could have gone even small , the plant will promptly go down into smaller and smaller pieces until you just have teeny plantlets . These necessitate a turn more guardianship before planting out , so I have not been greedy this time . plant like these often have a arboreous primal section , specially if its a enough sized clump . This can be removed and compost .

These simply demand potting up , or planting out . I have n’t yet decided where to constitute this lot so I have put them back in 1L pots . I put a little multi - purpose compost in the bottom , plonked the industrial plant in then filled in around the sides , tauten in as I went .
I started with three lobelia plants , and finished with sixteen . They were £ 15 to bribe , so are now efficaciously decent plant for less than £ 1 each . Bargain !
The final footprint was to water them in . I might also give them a boost with a general fertiliser .

This is a very quick and prosperous way of life to get more plants . No special equipment is need , no potion , no mucking about . I did something like with a glob of helenium last year , you could read about ithere . Give it a try !
I ’ll be back soon with more propagation fiddle-faddle .
