One way our Marysville campus associates have put this idea into action is through our Associate Garden .

Since 2009 , our associates have plant raised - bed garden on campus each spring and have produce over 38,000 pounds of tomato , peppers and other fruits and vegetable . Once reap , all produce is donated to the localMarysville Food Pantry , which services approximately 75 food - insecure fellowship a hebdomad and more than 1,200 individuals a calendar month in Union County .
The Associate Garden is , without a question , one of the most significant associate traditions on our campus . It was create as a training earth for familiar to get their hands into the shit , assay out our new innovations , see first - helping hand how our products work and live how Mother Nature bear upon our efforts . But even more so , it was a chance for us to do something good for our neighbors .
Like many of our custom at ScottsMiracle - Gro , this year ’s Associate Garden face a little dissimilar than past year . Typically , the garden kicks off with a gravid planting day celebration for all Marysville associate on our campus . And while we still planted the gardens this year , we implemented COVID-19 precautions and societal distancing to insure everyone ’s safety . These measures stayed in place all summer during harvesting , and , fortuitously , did not touch our yield and harvest rates .
“ solid food scarceness – especially refreshful produce – has always been a problem in our area , ” said Keitha Simpson from the Marysville Food Pantry . “ But with the shock of the pandemic , we would have been especially strained this twelvemonth , had we not obtain the donation from ScottsMiracle - Gro . Because of the ton of green goods the associates donate , we were able-bodied to feed close to 300 families every month this summertime . ”
As many of our associates have shared , it is truly gratifying to see how the simple act of gardening allows us to give back to our community in meaningful manner and help those in pauperization .
At the remnant of the Clarence Shepard Day Jr. , that ’s what our oeuvre is all about . give back and remembering that a small kindness can go a long style , and , sometimes , we need not seem further than in our own backyards to do it .
