Here ’s a large food forest theme – more fauna habitat !
Over the holidays I got a bit preoccupied with building bird houses and feeder for my food forest .
I ’ve never been much of a birdie watcher ( though I am an honorary member of the Audubon Society , thanks to my guitar ) ; however , I ’ve become very interested in how they interact with the ecosystem .
The woodland provides natural covering and nesting expanse for birds . Every day , the bird will roam far and wide , fulfil up their bellies , then return to the woodwind and leave their rich muck at the radical of their dendroid homes .
It ’s a good trade , and it ’s something I need more of in my fledgling food timber . Most birds provide more in pest ascendance than we revalue – enough so that I do n’t begrudge them a few yield here and there .
The niggling birdhouse above is the first one I ever made . It ’s built from recycled pallet wood with a hammered out # 10 can for the cap .

I cash in one’s chips on Amazon and bought a nerveless set of letter and number puncheslike this . They run pretty darn well , though it ’s not easy to line them up perfectly by center . The copper is from a piece of scrap pipe . I snipped out chunk and hammered it savourless to make little home base for my birdhouses .

I ’m building more for my yard – I actually boughta bookon building birdhouse ( which I never thought I ’d do ) to insure I drill the right size holes and have the veracious nest space for a variety of coinage .
Along with adding nesting spaces , I ’m also adding feeder to the yard and I also built one for my mom for Christmas :

I may also add a birdbath to the front grounds .
Along with building more space for birds , I ’m going to createa muckle of infinite for solitary bee , imbed a clustering of prime for the butterflies , and hopefully add a bat business firm … but those are posts for another meter .
I love the winter – I get a fortune to mess up around with projects that are n’t relate to planting and harvesting .
Can anyone cerebrate of other wildlife that would be deserving bring into the food woods ?
