Today ’s photos are from Amy Weber in Lancaster , Ohio . She says,“I come across my love of gardening when I moved into my first flat with only a small patio .   I filled every inch with plants ! In 2004 my husband and I built a “ cookie cutter ” house in a ceaselessly growing sub - division with no trees ! With our new house came a Cleveland pear tree diagram and a span of small bush in a little bed carve out in the front . The backyard was completely empty .

The first summertime we built a fencing , and then a deck the following year . Over the years we added a fenced - in vegetable garden , a terrace , and a pergola . We had untried children , two large dogs , and a tight budget so our DIY projects had to be spaced out – generally one project per yr .

Initially I focused on planting in the front and side one thousand because I wanted way in the back for the kids and dogs to play . As they arise quondam , I start the backyard garden by planting Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree for privacy and a few shrubs and grass around the deck of cards .   in the end , once the dogs stopped digging everything up , I contribute perennials , mainly in a foresighted border along one side of our fence . I ’m currently in the process of create a daylily bed and I will be widen the long border and adding a shade garden around our big maple tree diagram in the fall .

I stick to easy - to - grow   perennials that can be easily separate to make more ! My favorites are daylilies , coneflowers , and daisies . Most of my recurrent beds were begin with divisions from my own plants or from a admirer ’s garden .   I also buy past - peak perennials when they are dirt cheap .

I love profuse , overstuff beds and perimeter with clean edge and not a sight of garden “ junk ” . I like strange surprise plant combinations that happen when plants grow into each other .   I also plant for birds , bees , and butterfly .

My backyard garden has developed slowly over the age … keeping kids , dog , and budget in idea .   Our pace by all odds stands out in our cookie cutting tool suburban neck of the woods . My garden is my well-chosen topographic point . I hope you enjoy it too ! ”
