Every gardener I eff starts a fresh season with high hope for success . Sometimes gardens live up to those expectations , and other times disappoint abounds .

1 . TheEgyptian walk onionstake the top spot for 2017 .   I planted one of these perennial onion plants several seasons ago , and it continue to bewilder me . I planted each of the topsets from the original plant in a container , and more onion appear . Because these onions grow all summer , I always had dark-green Allium cepa ready to trim or pull and use in the kitchen . Their perennial nature intend I ’ll have even more onions next season .

2 . Muncher cuke were also a big victor . I love fresh , homegrown cucumbers and have had a hard prison term getting good crops of them the last several years . But this year I suppose I cracked the code on how to have complete cuke in teemingness . muncher are known for being prolific , and I plant them in a heavy container that gets a full 24-hour interval of sunshine . As long as I kept pick them , the plants keep producing arrow - straight person cucumber on a study treillage . I used them for everything from salad to sandwich , give some away and had plenty to pickle at the ending of the season .

3 . Ping Tung aubergine was a surprise achiever . This industrial plant took only 70 sidereal day from transplanting to harvest home . It place yield early and kept produce through the summer . The fruits were mellisonant and tippy , and were just the right size for grilling , stir sauteing , sauteeing and even eating raw . I ’ve never had such an abundant harvest with Solanum melongena before , so Ping Tung is in spades a keeper .

My garden also produced a lot of delicious love apple , flavorful chile pepper , squashes and many unlike kind of herb . But these three winners really made my summertime .

If you had some winners in your garden , could you please partake your favorites ? It ’s always nice to get another gardener ’s recommendation for next season ’s ( potential ) successes .
